I’d add to what TechieTammy said – always check for the UL label on heat tapes for safety assurances. And don’t cover them with insulation that could cause overheating.

Saves water and keeps things eco-friendly.

Hey RandyTheVanner, usually, you keep it plugged in when temperatures are expected to drop below freezing. Most heat tapes are designed with safety in mind, so the risk of fire is low if you follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

In my years on the road, simply keeping the inside warm and moving to warmer climates has been enough.

RV specific antifreeze is designed to be safe for your system but always check the type and follow your RV manufacturer’s guidelines.

I thought letting them empty would prevent freezing.

Anyone got more details on that? Some say it’s bad for the tanks longer term.

It’s safe if you use it right. Make sure it’s designed for RV use and monitor it. Been doing it for years with no issues.

Not OP, but yeah, there’s specific RV antifreeze you gotta use. Much safer for the systems and any pets you got tagging along.

Seems risky with flammable materials around. Anyone got experience with this?

Solar panels can provide enough power for it, too.
